Rising rates of hayfever
Allergy UK has noticed the rising rates of allergies especially hayfever, its causes and how many people are not using their medication properly.
This means they are struggling with symptoms such as sore, watery eyes, blocked and runny noses, sneezing, tiredness and an itchy throat. Allergy UK give really good advice tips on getting the best out of hayfever treatments.
Maureen Jenkins, director of clinical services at Allergy UK, said: “We are urging people to check whether they are using their medication correctly rather than just soldiering on and prolonging their suffering.’
Sore eyes and hayfever
As a pharmacist and (hayfever-suffering) optician owned company, we understand how distressing hayfever can be and have seen the challenges faced by women with sensitive eyes who want to look their best.
The natural mascaras, pencil eye liners and powder eyeshadows are all beneficial to allergy sufferers. This is due to our unique production process and avoidance of ingredients that are known to cause sensitivity.
Recently featured in The Ultimate Natural Beauty Bible, one tester commented;
‘I tested this mascara through a summer of bad hay fever with only minimal smudging, which is fantastic.’
The Food Standards Agency is also working with Allergy UK and the Anaphylaxis Campaign, to help spread awareness about food allergies. They have launched the Easy to Ask campaign to encourage young people to ask about allergens in food to help them to make safe choices. ASK stands for;
- Always ask about allergies
- Speak up
- Keep safe
Unfortunately, young people are more likely to suffer a reaction when eating out or purchasing takeaways. There have been a number of distressing allergy-related cases reported in the news recently. The survey asked 2599 young people aged 16-24 about their knowledge and attitudes towards food labelling. The aim of the campaign is to empower young people to ask food businesses about allergens.
